    We kicked off Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month with a presentation from Dr. Russo on colon cancer prevention and screening. Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in the U.S., but also one of the most preventable, and early detection through screening — now recommended starting at age 45 for average-risk adults — can save lives.

  • Episode 2 – So… Now What?: Making Sense of Diagnosis

    We continued the conversation with an educational presentation from Dr. Giglia focused on helping patients and families better understand the colorectal cancer diagnostic process. The session highlighted how cancer staging guides treatment decisions and emphasized the importance of early and accurate diagnosis. The presentation helps individuals feel more informed and confident as they navigate their care.

  • Episode 3 – Let’s Talk Treatment: What to Expect

    We continued the conversation with an educational presentation from Dr. Matrana focused on colorectal cancer treatment. The session explained how cancer staging guides treatment decisions, reviewed common therapies, and discussed emerging treatments and clinical trials. The presentation aimed to help patients and families feel more informed and confident as they navigate their care.

  • Episode 4 – Living Well, Even When Things Are Hard

    We continued the conversation with an educational presentation from Dr. Ashely Kreher focused on quality of life and symptom management throughout the colorectal cancer journey. The session highlighted how different stages of cancer can impact daily well-being, reviewed strategies for managing common symptoms and explored the role of integrative medicine and palliative care in supporting patients physically, emotionally and mentally. The presentation aimed to help patients and families feel more informed, supported and confident as they navigate care at every stage.

  • Episode 5 – The Comeback: Life After Colorectal Cancer

    We concluded the Colon Conversations series with an educational presentation from Dr. Mindie Kavanaugh focused on colorectal cancer survivorship and life after treatment. The session provided a comprehensive look at the recovery journey, addressing common long-term side effects such as fatigue, bowel changes and neuropathy, along with practical strategies to manage them. It also emphasized the importance of nutrition, physical activity, sleep and emotional support in rebuilding strength and sustaining overall well-being.

    As the final episode in the series, the presentation brought together key themes from throughout the journey, equipping patients and families with the knowledge and tools needed to move forward with confidence. The goal was to leave viewers feeling informed, empowered and supported as they transition into life beyond treatment.
