Ochsner Scholars FAQ
  • What is Ochsner Scholars? plus_icon minus_icon

The Ochsner Scholars financial assistance program was established with a clear mission: to cultivate the future generation of nurses with Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN), Radiology Technologist, Surgical Technologist, and Medical Laboratory Technologist qualifications. This initiative is in alignment with Louisiana's Healthy State Initiative, a commitment to elevate Louisiana from their current 50th place in national healthcare rankings to 40th by the year 2030.

Each day, nurses and allied health professionals play a pivotal role in saving and transforming lives. Ochsner Health recognizes this vital contribution and is dedicated to investing in the upcoming generation of healthcare professionals. These nurses and allied health professionals will be unwavering in their commitment to prioritizing patients, practicing with empathy, and upholding the highest ethical and clinical standards in healthcare.

Recipients of the financial assistance award will receive funds to support their education, in exchange for a commitment to join the dedicated team at Ochsner Health upon graduation. This program not only provides financial support but also ensures a future of compassionate and highly skilled healthcare at Ochsner Health, advancing the healthcare landscape in Louisiana and Mississippi.

What sets the Ochsner Scholars financial assistance program apart from others offered by hospital systems is its exceptional flexibility. This means that students who are already enrolled in accredited healthcare programs in these states can seamlessly continue their education without any need for transition in order to be eligible for our financial assistance. Furthermore, nursing students from the University of West Alabama are also eligible to apply. At this time, only Delgado Community College allied health students are eligible for Ochsner Allied Health Scholars; however, we plan to expand to any accredited school within the state of Louisiana or Mississippi soon.

Upon successful graduation, our scholars will seamlessly transition into full-time roles at Ochsner Health. However, our support extends far beyond financial assistance. We offer a comprehensive educational experience, rooted in the Ochsner ethos. Our scholars receive not only financial support but also access to a wealth of resources, including professional development opportunities, career coaching, and a range of services designed to provide unwavering support throughout their journey in school. At Ochsner, we are committed to nurturing the complete development of our scholars, empowering them to excel in their careers as healthcare professionals.
